If it were easy everyone would be doing it, right? I have always been a big fan of self-help books. You name it - I have probably read it or it is on my to be read list! I work with a therapist, two coaches, and several mentors to help guide me through my life and all the challenges that are thrown at me. I almost always look externally for answers when I get stuck which has resulted in me struggling to trust myself (currently working on this....)
During a coaching session last week, one of my coaches said something along the lines of, what if it doesn’t need to be THIS hard, what if it were easy and you had all the answers you needed inside of you….”
I immediately thought - IT CAN’T BE THAT EASY. NOPE. GOODBYE.
After my ego, chilled out... I started to think, can it be easy?
At 26 our brains are fully developed and at 26 I started this whole ”unlearning” process which is not shocking. To unlearn 26 years of ideas that I have always been told are true is extremely intimidating…
Rather than thinking of ways to make “personal development and growth” easier - I took a look back and reflected on what I have been able to accomplish in the past year. I am coming up on a year of officially working with my first coach and here's a list of things I have been able to accomplish:
identified my top values
quit my job & found one that aligns with the things I love to do
started recovering from burnout
set stronger boundaries in ALL areas of my life
strengthened current relationships & created so many new incredible ones
got an actual diagnosis for my mental illness that I have been struggling with for years
started working with a therapist
became less fatphobic and more comfortable in my own skin
started this blog and posting on LinkedIn every day
learned how to show up more authentically in both my place of work and life
got engaged to Sean ☺️
I am 100% forgetting a ton more but the thing is, I accomplished a lot in one year. SO does self-improvement and growth have to be hard, No.
Some things on the list above were hard but, some were easy to implement into my life. One thing for sure is that, despite some of these things being harder to overcome - my life has become much easier once I have.
