I love empowering others in their careers but when I was asked today during one of my coaching sessions how do I empower myself, I had to really pause and think, how do I empower myself? After giving it some thought, I realized that I empower myself through several different avenues. I love networking with others who are passionate about their careers and learning tactics that I can implement into my own career to further develop it.
I get empowered by spending time with friends and colleagues who energize me through authentic conversations. Any time I spend out outside biking/walking/swimming fuels me with so much energy, which is why I force myself no matter what the weather is to go on a walk each morning as it gives me the energy I need to make through my day. Lastly and most importantly, taking care of my basic needs is something that empowers me. For example, I have found that blocking off 30 mins to cook myself a yummy lunch versus taking 5 mins to scarf down something that I don’t even like is the equivalent of an afternoon coffee for me. I need to feel well fed and rested to feel energized to empower those around me.
So, I would challenge you to answer that question for yourself, how do you empower yourself?
I wanted to keep this week’s post short and sweet but give you something to think about as I feel like a lot of us (people-pleasing & hyper achievers) could use this “prompt” to really think about how we empower ourselves versus the people around us because if we aren’t empowered then how can we empower those around us.
